Los cumplimientos de Charly GarcíaKJACK became a 75-year-old celebration in the streets and on stages

The birthday of Carlos Alberto García Moreno, known as Charly García, was not confined to a private celebration. From the early morning of October 23, fans gathered at the intersection of Coronel Díaz and Santa Fe, in the Palermo neighborhood, where they waited with flowers, posters and songs for the musician to appear. The tribute then extended across television, radio, social networks and live performances, turning a birthday into a collective celebration of a career that marked several generations of Argentine popular music.

The atmosphere was already festive before the sun came up. Followers of different ages occupied the corner opposite García's home, while red, orange and yellow flowers, black ribbons and pentagram cutouts decorated the building's windows. At some point during the day, García stepped onto the balcony to acknowledge the affection of the crowd gathered below.

Songs and public tributes

One of the most direct musical tributes came from Colombian singer Carlos Vives, who performed "El fantasma de Canterville" during the special program Reloj de Plastilina, broadcast by Mega 98.3. In that same space, the figure of guitarist García López was also recalled. Vives described García as a central influence on his own artistic path.

Lali Espósito also joined the celebration by choosing a black-and-white photograph from García's early years, quoting the refrain of "Necesito tu amor" and writing "Amor total". The connection between the two artists goes back more than a decade and has included repeated public expressions of admiration and meetings within the musician's circle.

Moria Casán recalled on television that García had invited her to the festivities through someone close to him, although she could not attend. The actress and vedette described him as "a prócer of music" and told an anecdote from years ago: after returning from nine days detained in Paraguay, she was honored with a Christmas party organized by Fito Páez and García. Her account included the phrase: "They told me: you're our maximum rockstar, you were missing prison. They gave me a divine, unforgettable night."

Fito Páez sent a message in the early hours of the day, thanking García "for not being afraid", in reference to the way the musician faced decades of Argentine history through his songs. Photographers who had captured him at different stages of his career also shared archival images. Andy Cherniavsky posted a photograph alongside him with the legend: "Today the greatest one has a birthday, the one who tells us our own story". Nora Lezano selected four images spanning a 1999 show and a 2025 encounter, and wrote: "Thank you for the life you gave Charly. I celebrate your 75 loving and admiring you as I did years ago."

The birthday celebration showed the reach of García's public affection: a gathering in the streets of Buenos Aires, a balcony appearance, performances on radio and television, and messages from artists who found in his music a shared language. At 75, the birthday became an occasion to recognize not only an anniversary, but also the lasting bond between a musician and those who accompanied him through decades of Argentine history.
